How Leaders Speak
Overview
The higher people rise in an organization,
the more frequently they speak. And the more there is at
stake. They have to learn new ways of giving speeches. Their
old ways — the presentation skills and strategies that
once helped them achieve success — no longer apply. They
have to learn how to speak less to inform and more to
influence and inspire.
Program Objectives
In this program participants will learn
-
HOW to invest more of themselves into
every speech they give
-
WHY their main purpose for speaking is
to shape an audience's sense of identity, influence
their way of seeing, and inspire them to act
-
WHAT they can do to increase their impact as speakers
-
WHY they should avoid using PowerPoint as much as possible
-
HOW they can gain an audience's
attention and respect
"Thanks to Chris, I'm able to
deliver professional briefings — to three- and four-star
generals, Members of Congress, and leaders of foreign armed
forces — in a manner that not only gets my message across
but also keeps the listener's attention."

Program Outline
This presentation shows participants how to
speak more like a leader and less like a technical expert, a
trainer, or a sales rep. It helps them understand their
unique role as leaders/speakers.
This talk identifies the four elements of a
successful speech — the speaker, the event, the message,
and the delivery. It guides audiences through a
3-step process for creating a speech that will set them
apart from the crowd:
Step 1: Plan Your Strategy
Step 2: Develop Your Content
Step 3: Perfect Your Delivery
Potential Audiences
This presentation is designed for leaders
(CEOs, presidents, senior level executives, business owners,
self-employed entrepreneurs) and for managers who are being groomed (or who are
grooming themselves) for leadership positions. It assumes
that participants already have a basic competence in public
speaking.
Program Format
-
Keynote Speech (45 Minutes to 1 Hour) covers these topics, giving illustrations and how-tos.
-
Workshop (Half Day to Two Full
Days) goes into each topic in more depth and coaches participants through exercises designed to
improve their ability to speak like a leader.
"Chris drew the largest crowd we
have had at a breakfast meeting in over a year. Excellent
turnout and I heard much positive feedback from the
attendees. He has such well-developed presentation and
delivery skills—he is a role model for us all!"
